Ramona Lucas Obituary "Louisville M.E."

Ramona Lucas was from Whitesburg and one of the originals, beginning her active career with the Medical Examiner’s Office in October of 1977.  She was an ardent and amiable spit fire who was bright, kind, and a huge part of our working family. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved including her three rescued cats—Lenny, Molly, and Dreamer. In the early 2000's, Ramona was diagnosed with breast cancer. Did she let that define her? NO! She figured out how to live each day like it was the last and cancer was definitely not the thief of her life. It did not rob her of her time, energy, or peace that she displayed daily. And boy did she need peace! How she managed to come to work every day to listen and type descriptions of things no one should ever be exposed to, deal with a plethora of personalities (both professional and UNprofessional), a decaying and eventually condemned building with its own unnatural disasters (floods, cave-ins, critters…), and in an ever changing political environment—we will never know. But we are oh so grateful to her for touching our lives, teaching us how to deal with life’s cruelest circumstances with grace and poise and making us laugh with her mischievously funny sense of humor. She was always there to listen, encourage, and always seemed to have great advice. Of which, one was well-behaved women rarely make history. Ramona was NOT well-behaved! We like to believe that it was this amazingly unique part of her that filled her life with crazy experiences, whirl-wind adventures, and the chutzpah to fight a disease for two decades.

Her loss leaves a terrible hole in the universe but we know she is still out there, singing jazz with her mom, and shining like diamonds. She was the epitome of living life to the fullest. May we all be so blessed to do the same. In her words, “Ms. Mo 4-ever”.
